Bible Reading:  Matthew 23

Hypocrisy.  It is one of the worst behaviors a follower of Jesus can possess.  Jesus deals with the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, Scribes, and the like.  This chapter is anything but that of acceptance and tolerance.  Jesus makes clear that this bunch is inconsistent in what they say and do.  For me, it is easy to read this and point the finger at them and their type.  But that does not bring me any closer to Jesus.  I am looking at my own life, and asking Jesus to illuminate inconsistencies, places where I am “playing the hypocrite”.  I am far from being what Jesus wants me and has called me to be.

Lord, please illuminate the inconsistencies in my life.  Make me more like you.  I ask this in Jesus’ name.
